Benefits of Organic Cotton

Environmental Benefits

The organic cotton used in SOJAO’s bed sheets are grown in a way that lessens the impact on our environment. They are grown from non-GMO seeds without the use of any synthetic pesticides or insecticides. This saves our waterways and the soil from being contaminated by toxins that are used in conventional cotton farming.

Conventional cotton farming uses more insecticides than any other crop in the world and such chemicals poison farmers and factory workers too, who breathe in their fumes during the manufacturing process. Pesticide residue seeps into run-off water after heavy rains and poison our waterways as well, eventually contaminating our food chain.

Health Benefits

SOJAO’s organic cotton bed sheets are hypoallergenic largely due to the lack of trapped chemical residue or chemical additives. The bed sheets are dyed using environmentally friendly dyes and are also not treated with formaldehyde (which is commonly used in anti-wrinkling treatments) or any toxic chemical fabric finishes, that might cause skin irritation, rashes or even headaches and dizziness.

We believe that because you sleep in close contact with your bedding materials (and for years), organic cotton may be among the most health-protective choices you can make.

Textile Quality Benefits

The quality of the textiles produced from organic cotton is substantially higher than textiles that are made with conventional cotton. Organic cotton plants produce longer-staple cotton fibers which yield stronger yarn and more durable fabrics. The omission of chlorine bleaches and other harsh chemicals also make the fabric less "stressed" and likely to wear longer. SOJAO sheets get better with every wash and use!

Certification to back it all up

SOJAO's organic cotton bed sheets are certified 100% organic cotton (Certified by Control Union, CU1006720). The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

Amongst an extensive list of stringent criteria, that means that we:

  1. Only use cotton organically grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, and without Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
  2. Use low-impact, environmentally friendly dyes in accordance with the GOTS requirements
  3. Support fair trade employment throughout our supply chain in accordance with the International Labour Organization (ILO)

We are proud to stand behind our products and we are championing organic cotton because we believe that we have an obligation to save the planet, however cliché that might sound!
